I love when something hilariously daggy becomes so on trend that fashionistas everywhere add to cart and start sporting as if it were always so cool. The polo top definitely falls into this category, I mean a year ago I wouldn’t have been seen dead in one unless it was paired with a pleated skirt in the confines of a tennis court. Fast forward 12 months and brands like Miu Miu and Carven have made this sporty staple a fully-fledged fashion must-have- although there are some rules when wearing a polo IRL. For example the fabrication, picking a knit or lace style instantly ups the cool-factor; a graphic print helps too. If you do opt for a sporty fabrication then play up the vibe with obvious stripes (like the cute MSGM style at the bottom of this page) and match with denim or a sleek a-line mini skirt. Footwear should be on point, so tread carefully – sneakers shouldn’t be too sporty, pick a fashion-forward pair like Valentino’s uber-chic studded styles; or instead go for sleek flats (a fresh white pair are always modern).
